As we have stressed in every announcement for the past two years, our goal for the Hemingway in Paris Conference is to make it a walkable event, with all recommended hotels clustered together in the lovely, safe and serene 7th Arrondissement. The hotels listed below (List A) are within easy walking distance of our American University of Paris (AUP) conference venues. Our primary AUP venue is the Combes Building. All hotel recommendations are within 8-15 minutes walking distance from Combes and other conference venues (including special events at the Eiffel Tower and the American Library in Paris).
One of the celebrated places in the 7th Arrondissement is the wonderful rue Cler Street Market, regarded by many Parisians and knowledgeable travelers as the best market in Paris. All of our recommended hotels are near the rue Cler, and two of the hotels (the Cler and the Lévêque) are on the pedestrian-only market section of rue Cler.
Among the lodging inquiries we have received from conferees we note the most important question: For what dates should I book my hotel? As you know, the conference dates are July 22-28. Since registration and the Opening Reception will take place on Sunday afternoon the 22nd, we recommend that you check in your hotel no later than 3 PM Sunday afternoon. We recommend checking out no earlier than noon Saturday the 28th, since papers will be scheduled until 6 PM on Friday the 27th (with possible sessions on Saturday morning the 28th). Also the Closing Banquet will be Friday night--a Bateau-Mouche Dinner Cruise on the Seine (not to be missed)!
Below you will see our top five recommendations (1-5 in List A), followed by a number of smaller and less expensive hotels. Prices may vary depending on when you book your hotel; prices listed are those quoted in 2017. The hotels in List A below have been stayed in or visited by members of our Paris Committee. The location of these 2-to-4 star hotels (per official classification) is indicated on the attached Conference Map. (We also include List B--hotels recommended by AUP for previous conferences. Please note that "walking distance" may not apply to all of the hotels on List B. The last two numbers of the "zip code" that follows the street address indicate the Arrondissement--thus 75007 indicates the 7th, our immediate conference neighborhood. Unless you want to spend much time on buses or the Metro or in taxis, or walking long distances, we strongly recommend that you book a hotel in the 7th Arrondissement.)
In sum, now is the time to book your hotel. Current numbers of paper abstract submissions indicate that this will likely be the largest Hemingway Conference ever. Also Paris is Paris, the most visited city in the world, they say; and the 7th Arrondissement is a preferred location for knowledgeable visitors. All this adds up to the necessity of booking your lodging now, before the hotels in the 7th are full. And watch for the next e-blast in early October, with more announcements and details regarding conference registration.

A WORD ABOUT LODGING: Please register early and book your lodging when you register. The necessity of booking Paris hotels early cannot be overstated. Paris is not Poughkeepsie. Booking a Paris hotel for July in November or December is a good idea. See lodging recommendations elsewhere in website conference materials. Guidelines: our hotel list is based on the notion of a conference where most events are within walking distance of AUP in the 7th Arr. Thus there will be no shuttle service. If you choose to stay elsewhere in Paris, there is, of course, a superb Metro (subway) system as well as reasonable and well-regulated taxi service.
