CONFERENCE REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED
MAXIMUN EVENT CAPACITY REACHED

XVIIl Biennial International Hemingway Society Conference
"Paris Est Une Fête". . .
Hemingway's Moveable Feast

July 22-28 Paris, France

When the Paris Conference was announced, we boldly proclaimed that Paris is not as expensive as many people think it is. We promised to keep the registration cost as low as possible. We have worked hard to make the best possible conference at the best possible prices; and we are pleased to note that registration and special event options for Paris in 2018 will cost less than our last two conferences (2014 and 2016). The American University of Paris (hereafter AUP) in the 7th Arrondissement is our host institution and all academic paper sessions will be held there (Locations 1 and 5 on map), with the exception of one full day of plenary sessions on Wednesday at La Sorbonne.

Conference check-in is at the AUP Combes Building (6, rue de Colonel Combes)
and opens at 2:00 PM on Sunday 22 July.

All presenters and panel moderators must be members of the Hemingway Society and must register for the full conference program. Registered members may register companions for limited meeting attendance and optional events. If you are a member and are not logged on, you may log on using the column to the right. To register for the conference your membership must be current through July 28, 2018. If necessary, you may renew your membership. If you are not a member you may join the society and then register for the conference.

Although optional events may be added at a later date, you are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible since venue space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please help us simplify the registration process by registering online. It is safe, secure, and user-friendly. You may choose to pay by credit card or by mailing a check to us to complete your online registration. If you require a manual mail-in registration form, you may request one using our contact page

Society Travel Grants/Fellowship Fundraiser ($40)
Scheduled for 7 PM Wednesday July 25th at the American Library in Paris, the venerable institution in the 7th Arrondissement within walking distance of AUP. This event will feature a Hemingway exhibit, reading of Hemingway-related poems, and singing of Hemingway-related songs. If conferees pay the FULL Registration and sign up for this optional event, they are invited to request a program-slot to perform a poem or a song—send requests to the conference co-directors Matthew Nickel and H. R. Stoneback at contact us (select Category: "Conference in Paris") as early as possible after payment for this special event option and conference registration; and, in any case, before April 1, 2018. All requests will be considered until the program limits are reached. (Dress code: casual)

PEN/Hemingway Fundraiser ($120)
Scheduled for 10 AM-1 PM Monday July 23rd at the Eiffel Tower. An extraordinary event at the most extraordinary venue in Paris (and perhaps the world), the Tour Eiffel—literally up on/inside the Tower, in the Salon Gustave Eiffel. We will not be at the top of the tower—not to worry about vertigo or acrophobia; we will be inside the elegant Salon Gustave Eiffel on a lower level; still, the views are remarkable—don’t forget your camera. Access will be by elevator, privately escorted—no long tourist lines. This “wine and cheese” event will feature Lesley Blume and Valerie Hemingway, and other distinguished speakers. In addition, if your lifelong dream is to speak at the Tour Eiffel, conferees who pay the FULL Registration and sign up for this optional event are invited to request a place on the program segment that will include brief readings on this theme: “Why I Love Hemingway and Paris.” Send a 200-word (maximum) statement entitled “Why I Love Hemingway and Paris” to the conference co-directors Matthew Nickel and H. R. Stoneback at contact us (select Category: "Conference in Paris") as early as possible after payment for the full conference registration and this optional special event. All program requests received before April 1, 2018 will be considered until the program limits are reached. (Dress code: casual)

Closing Banquet: BATEAU-MOUCHE Dinner Cruise on the SEINE ($120)
SOLD OUT. If you wish to be added to a first-come, first-serve waiting list for any event openings please send us a note using the contact us web page.
Scheduled for 8-11 PM on Friday July 27th. The port and departure/return point is just across the river from AUP, within easy walking distance of our conference center.

The river was dark and a bateau mouche went by, all bright with lights,
going fast and quiet up and out of sight under the bridge. Down the river was Notre Dame . . .
                                                                                                                                       The Sun Also Rises

The de rigueur venue for a celebratory occasion in Paris is a dinner cruise on the Seine. We will have exclusive use of the bateau-mouche Le Jean Bruel, with an open roof deck for viewing the magnificent sites of Paris, and a closed-in deck for gourmet dining (live music included).
