New Hemingway Film: Papa Hemingway in Cuba released in April

The film Papa: Hemingway in Cuba was released in late April.  Touted as the first American production to be made in Cuba since the 1959 revolution, it explores the relationship between Hemingway (Adrian Sparks), Mary (Joely Richardson), and Denne Bart Petitclerc (Giovanni Ribisi), a young journalist—and future screenwriter of the 1977 adaptation of Islands in the Stream—who travels to Cuba during the political turmoil of the 1950s to meet his literary idol.  The film has received mixed reviews, ranging from critics who praise the director Bob Yari’s on-location shooting at the Finca Vigía to others who lambaste the film’s weak dialogue based on Petitclerc’s script.
