TRAVEL DAY
Thursday, July 21, 2022 End of the Sheridan, Wyoming Portion of the Conference
9:00- 5:00 pm Travel day from Sheridan to Cooke City. Take Interstate 90 west to Highway 14. Take Highway 14 through Greybull, WY to Cody. Cody is a good place to stop for lunch or to pick up supplies. Check out Hemingway haunts such as the Irma Hotel and the Chamberlin Inn. From Cody trace Hemingway’s rout to Yellowstone Country take Highway 120 to the Chief Joseph Scenic Hwy (Hwy 296) turn west on Hwy 212 toward Yellowstone, past the L—T Ranch and through the heart of Hemingway Country, to Cooke City and Silver Gate at the NE Entrance to Yellowstone. Drive time from Sheridan about 5 hours..
COOKE CITY, MONTANA
Thursday, July 21, 2022 Beginning of the Cooke City portion of the conference
5:00pm - 9:30 pm Welcome reception at the Range Rider Lodge. Be sure to arrive early to attend the welcome reception as there will be the unveiling of Hemingway in Yellowstone Country Exhibit, a writers table, fly tying demonstration – Papa’s flies, fly casting lessons, horseshoes, Hemingway’s Guns Exhibit, live music, hors d’oevres, refreshments, and a cash bar featuring Hemingway inspired cocktails.
6:30-6.45 – Welcome comments by Society President Carl Eby and Conference Director Larry Grimes
7:30-7:45 – “From Hemingway to Brautigan to Today” Local author Toby Thompson presents a colorful account of the literary history of Park County, Montana
8:30-8:45 – “Harry’s 20 Stories” Author Chris Warren tracks down the 20 stories from out west mentioned by Harry towards the end of “Snows of Kilimanjaro.”
