Full Invitation:
Join us for an evening full of good cheer featuring music by Mike Roos, bells from the Granite State Ringers, a signature cocktail from Marcos Norris and his elves, games hosted by gamemaster Verna Kale, and a writing contest designed by Lisa Tyler and THR blog advisory board Nissa Ren Cannon, Marcos Antonio Norris, and Katie Warczak. And, of course, there will be Hemingway-themed prizes!
This year, we will also have a few special features including a video about how to make Clarence Hemingway's holiday stuffing recipe by Hilary Justice, a tour of the Pfeiffer home in Piggott decked out for the holidays with Adam Long, and a look at some of Hemingway's Christmas cards from the Letters Project.
We hope you will join us! Details on the writing contest and signature cocktails below.
The Writing Contest There is an apocryphal tale that Hemingway famously wrote a moving six-word short story on a napkin while out with friends: “For sale. Baby shoes, never worn.” Submit your own six-word story—preferably Hemingway- and/or holiday-themed—to lisa.tyler@sinclair.edu by December 12. You could win a Hemingway-related prize and have a chance to read your winning six-word short story aloud at the December 19 virtual holiday party of the Hemingway Society. Members of the blog’s three-person advisory board will judge the contest and their decisions are final. Prizes will be shipped directly to you once you have chosen from the prizes selected by the Society. Winners will be announced at the holiday party, but you do not need to be present to win. Your winning story may be read aloud in your absence. Here's your chance to show off your creativity to your Hemingway Society friends!

The Signature Cocktail: Peppermint Bark Martini Ingredients: - 2 oz vanilla vodka (or regular vodka, if you prefer) - 1 oz white crème de menthe (for the peppermint flavor) - 1 oz crème de cacao (or chocolate liqueur) - 1 oz heavy cream (or milk, if you want a lighter version) - Crushed peppermint candies or candy cane pieces (for garnish) - Chocolate syrup (optional, for drizzling) - Crushed ice
Instructions: 1. Prepare your glass: Start by chilling your martini glass. You can do this by placing it in the freezer for a few minutes or filling it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail. 2. Mix the drink: In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, crème de menthe, crème de cacao, and heavy cream (or milk). Fill the shaker with ice, cover it, and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds. 3. Prepare the rim (optional): For an extra touch, you can rim your martini glass with crushed peppermint candies. To do this, lightly coat the rim of the glass with a bit of chocolate syrup and then dip it into crushed peppermint. 4. Strain and pour: Strain the mixture into the chilled martini glass. 5. Garnish: Top the drink with a drizzle of chocolate syrup if desired, and garnish with more crushed peppermint or a small candy cane. 6. Serve: Enjoy your festive and delicious Peppermint Bark Martini!
