Composer Michael Daugherty (michaeldaugherty.net) and cellist Zuill Bailey premiered "Tales of Hemingway," a co-commissioned concerto inspired by the writer's life and work. "Tales of Hemingway" unfolds in four movements, each one based on a major short story or novel: "Big Two-Hearted River," The Sun Also Rises, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and The Old Man and the Sea. The concerto premiered in Nashville in April and, more recently, in Detroit from 20-22 October. For those interested, here is a selection from "Tales of Hemingway: I. Big Two-Hearted River."
